Czech TV's ČT24 to offer 24/7 live news coverage from May
Czech Television's news channel, ČT24, is set to significantly expand its broadcasting schedule from May, offering live coverage 24 hours a day, including the midnight to morning hours. The announcement was made by Director General Jan Souček during a meeting of the Czech Television Council.
The overnight programming will be produced by news teams from the Prague headquarters as well as the news departments of the television studios in Brno and Ostrava. "They have been preparing for this since the beginning of this year," Souček stated.
"The launch increases ČT24's ability to respond operationally to extraordinary events in the Czech Republic and, in particular, abroad. Recent examples include the earthquake in Taiwan, Iran's attack on Israel, or the meeting between Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala and U.S. President Joe Biden," Souček added.
The post-midnight news blocks will be supplemented by continuous broadcasting with live interviews on current topics. The Director General noted that this development is related to the 19th anniversary of ČT24's launch, which falls on Thursday, May 2.
